  1. Buy a ‘Lonely Planet’ guide book on Mexico and take a trip to Merida in Mexico, the state capital of Yucatan. Go and see all the nearby Maya ruins by taking regular city tourist busses from the railway station to different sites each day. . .cost a few dollars as opposed to city tours.
Your Lonely Planet will guide you to each of the sites with detail how to get there and how to get away and what to see there.
The same with accomodation in Merida, your guide book will give you different hotels and prices. There I have stayed in budget hotels with gardens and swimming pools for less than $25/day. . .recently

  2. Cabo San Lucas is the ideal location. They have a great climate & various hotels or inclusive resorts that offer all your meals with a family oriented appeal.
$553 per person on yahoo travel for the dates & one AP from Chicago
    12/4 Thursday:7:35 am - 1:39 pm1-stop in Phoenix (ORD-SJD)
    12/8 Monday:1:15 pm - 6:30 pm Non-stopSJD-ORD
We have gone 4 years now & love visiting there. Suggest renting a car if you have small children, it’s just easier to get a round & go to Costco or Walmart for shopping if you choose a non inclusive property.
Go onto http://www.tripadvisor.com & there are lots of forums to research your trip to Cabo & particular hotels or other.

  3. Try Cancun, Mexico. You can get all inclusive with air and hotel for around 500-600 bucks. That will cover all meals and drinks at the hotel. Thebeaches are great and the avg temp is around 85dgs. If you want to stay in the US and spend way less try Galveston Texas. There is alot to do for everyone, and the history there is really something. If going to Galveston be sure and take the duck tour!!!

  4. Sri Lanka.
    Ideal for a family vacation.
Blue ocean, silver sand beaches, forests & happy hot sun.

  5. Just with a plain ticket you are going to be getting close to your 1000 per month mark. Better go somewhere EXTREMELY cheap, like Mazatlan or something.

  6. Florida perhaps
