    – An area in the north of the country know?Petén http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&um… ————————————– Petén is a department of the nation of Guatemala. It is geographically the northernmost department of Guatemala Starting in the 1960s the Guatemalan government offered land in Petén to any citizen willing to settle on it and pay a fee of $25. A road was opened up to Flores, although it was unpaved, and the notorious bus trip to Flores was known to take up to 24 hours to travel the 300 miles (500 km). Small airports were built at Flores and Tikal, bringing tourists to the region. In the early 1970s a road was opened from Tikal to Belize.
The first paved road in Petén was built in 1982. The Mundo Maya International Airport, in Santa Elena, is the second of the country. Since the 1990s many new settlers have come to Petén. The area is also experiencing severe deforestation in its southern half.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pet%C3%A9n_… ———— Belize

Costa Rica is often referred to as the Switzerland of Central America for its reputation of peace, political
stability, and prosperity. This website seeks to demonstrate Costa Rican exceptionalism in Latin America among its Central American neighbors. The relative peace, domination on the soccer field, resolve to shut the gate of drug trafficking, flow of immigrants into the country, reforms in the healthcare system, and ability to compete in the global market shows that Costa Rica sets the bar for Central America. A large number of credible studies, sources, and perspectives were compiled to support each facet of this argument. However, despite their exceptionalism in Central America, a personal perspective from local Costa Ricans illuminates the truth that Costa Rica is still a nation developing and working towards being the symbol that it is often viewed as. Nevertheless, a nation marked by progress in the midst of a struggling region allows Costa Rica to shine bright as the Switzerland of Central America. http://www.duke.edu/~dhn2/
